This year marked a monumental milestone for us with the launch of Scature, a company born from a vision to revolutionize the way we approach carbon credits and nature-based solutions. From the very beginning, Scature has been more than just a business; it’s a commitment to positively impact water cycles, increase biodiversity, and capture CO₂. At the core of our mission is the unwavering support for carbon farmers worldwide, who enhance biodiversity while capturing and storing CO₂. Their efforts, along with climate-positive supply chains, are essential for companies striving to achieve a climate-neutral future. Our goal is to connect carbon farmers with companies, fostering transition finance and propelling the regenerative movement forward.

Launch of Scature

In June, we officially launched Scature and unveiled our website. While the groundwork for the company began in November of last year, this public launch marked the start of an exciting journey. It also coincided with the announcement that Robert had joined our team after his work on Projeto Maara in Brazil, returning to the Netherlands to drive our mission further. Bart brought the experience and vision he developed at Scave.world, ensuring a focus on regenerative agriculture from a farm-first perspective. Meanwhile, Scature concentrated on commercial operations and scaling the movement. Laura transitioned from the tourism industry, dedicating her focus to connecting this fast-developing sector with regenerative projects.

Carbon Farmers Onboarded

We onboarded a number of high-quality carbon farmers from around the world this year!

Milestones

Welcoming Danone Global Regenerative Agriculture Team

We were thrilled to host the Danone Global Regenerative Agriculture Team at Scave’s farm in Waddinxveen for an interactive, hands-on activity day. Together with their Dairy + Plant-based team, we planted 400 trees and engaged in meaningful land stewardship activities, including elderberry planting, pruning, and maintenance. This collaboration sparked important conversations about the interconnected benefits of soil health, biodiversity, water retention, and CO₂ storage. Danone’s commitment to scaling regenerative agriculture inspires us to continue building future-proof ecosystems.

Groothuis Bouwgroep visit Paulownia Cultures

We had the privilege of hosting Groothuis Bouwgroep at one of our carbon farming sites, Paulownia Cultures. As leaders in sustainability, Groothuis has offset hard-to-abate emissions through nature-based carbon credits for the past two years. Their visit, led by Eric Litjens and Finn Verhoeff, highlighted the incredible potential of Paulownia trees. With 15 hectares—the largest plantation in the Netherlands—Paulownia Cultures not only stores carbon but also provides farmers with sustainable income models. These fast-growing trees absorb CO₂ and supply biobased materials for construction, demonstrating nature-based solutions' transformative power.

Advancing Carbon Standards with ONCRA’s ICVCM Application

This year, our carbon partner ONCRA took a major step forward by applying for certification with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). This globally recognized standard ensures that carbon credits meet rigorous environmental and social benchmarks, enhancing transparency and trust in the market. ONCRA’s application reflects its dedication to upholding the highest standards in nature-based carbon solutions, aligning with our shared mission to drive credible climate action.

Robert Smits at the Carbon Conference NL 2024 in Amsterdam

Robert represented Scature at the Carbon Conference NL 2024, where the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth unveiled the National Carbon Roadmap 2025-2035. His workshop underscored the immense potential of nature-based carbon removal solutions. While much of the Ministry’s focus remains on technical solutions, we continue to advocate for the power of nature-based approaches, which are often underestimated due to misconceptions about permanence and measurability.

Bart van Beuzekom on BNR Nieuwsradio

Bart achieved a significant milestone by speaking live on BNR Nieuwsradio Duurzaam with Harm Edens. On the 16th of October, Bart shared insights into accelerating progress toward the Paris Climate Agreement, helping companies achieve their 2030 climate targets, and advancing net-zero goals. This platform allowed us to amplify our mission and advocate for sustainable practices on a broader scale.
